From the first day of being diagnosed with cancer I began to think of myself as a survivor. I will kick this cancer in the mitochondria butt and cause it’s cell walls to vanish from my boobs. My friends and students have commented that it doesn’t even seem like I have cancer, and when I do talk about it I’m usually laughing.

So I wanted to take the positive things about my diagnosis and share them withyou, whoever you are and wherever you live. I just want others to know that a simple mammogram may have saved my life, even though I did procrastinate 7 months. And a simple mammogram may save your life or the life of a loved one! So don’t wait, don’t procrastinate any longer. You are worth it – so get it done and join the WannaKeepMyBoobies Women who are committed to making a stand for prevention and breast health!

What Cancer Cannot Do…

Posted by Lynn

It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot eat away peace.
It cannot destroy confidence.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot shut out memories.
It cannot quench the spirit.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot reduce eternal life.

Your Contributions at Work!

Posted by Lynn

As of December 31, 2010 WKMB was able to donate $1700 to two Tacoma-area organizations.  The money was specifically earmarked to assist with free and low-cost mammogram events, which is the mission of WKMB.   The Carol Milgard Breast Center was the recipient of a significant portion of the money and they will be using it to increase the number of women they can serve in their MardiGram Breast Screening event.  A sincere Thank You to those who made this contribution possible!

Cancer-free for 2011

Posted by Lynn

It has been far too long since my last post but I was really busy kicking this cancer thing.  I found out last spring that I had the genetic mutation – BRCA-2, which indicates a significant risk (80% + for some) for all types of female cancers.  So I had a complete hystercetomy on September 28 and a double mastectomy December 2, and I am proud to say that I am totally cancer-free!  I will have one more surgery in April to correct a problem with the reconstruction and then I will have fabulous boobs as well!

I hope you are enjoying an amazing start to 2011 and continue to prosper in this new year!
